An update on the walk....
For all of you out there that are following the progress of the 'walkers', we have an update from an avid supporter of the shool, Anne Rogers from Kimbriki, near Taree in NSW.
Anne met "The Walk for St Jude's Team" for dinner. She said that overall they looked quite healthy except for one limb and all 'walkers' had blisters to contend with.
Anne showed them pictures and told them stories about the St Jude's and are now inspired to come visit. We welcome you with open arms and perhaps a walk up Kilimanjaro is the next challenge!

The Walk
Sometimes you come across those people who really love to help others. Kerrie Swampillai and her team are some of them. Kerrie has informed us of the amazing feat The Walk for St Judes team are about to undertake. On the 26th September, the team will begin their journey from Cavill Avenue, Surfers Paradise and over 11 days and 900km, will make their way down and finish in Sutherland (a southern suburb of Sydney).
Kerrie first came up with the idea about 12 months ago after reading Gemma’s book. She felt so inspired and proud that a fellow Aussie was making such a difference on the other side of the world. She decided she wanted to help. That is when she put the idea to some members of her family. They jumped at the chance to help and challenge themselves physically and mentally. So the planning began and the idea steamrolled from there.
The Walk for St Jude team is made up of 7 people, 6 of them being from Kerrie’s family. The plan is the team will walk in a pair for 1.5 hours and then tag the next pair who will begin walking and continue this each day from 6am-6pm. The team will have two support vehicles. One will tow their caravan and go ahead of the walkers and set up the nightly camp, while the other will follow closely behind the walking group.

The Walk for St Judes Team - The walkers include Kerrie Swampillai, Wendy Phillpott, Joanne Charlton, Simone Foster; and the support team includes Michael Charlton, John Foster and Julie Frith
The group has been training for about nine months now by regularly going to the gym and walking various distances. It is definitely a credit to the group as managing training, fundraising and kids isn’t always easy.
Kerrie says by just knowing what Gemma and the team is accomplishing in Tanzania is enough to keep The Walk for St Judes Team inspired and motivated.
The team has held many fundraising events and the support from the local community in the Sutherland Shire has been overwhelming. Among the successful events includes a Bingo night, a Fashion Parade, Taste Testing, and a Dinner and Auction night. So far, the team’s fundraising has raised just over $10 000. They are hoping to raise more as they travel down the coast.
